Ascendas India Trust to develop phase one of its first data center campus in India
It will be one of the largest data center campuses in Airoli , a growing data center hub in Navi Mumbai .
The 6.6-acre greenfield site will be developed in phases into a fully-fitted data center campus with a total potential built-up area of up to 575,000 sq ft and 90 MW of power to host customers such as global technology giants and cloud service providers , as well as large domestic enterprise clients .
The acquisition of the site from third-party vendors is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2021 .
The data center campus will comprise two buildings . In phase one , the first building – which is scheduled to be ready by 2Q 2024 – will have a built-up area of about 325,000 sq ft .
Ascendas Property Fund Trustee , the Trustee-Manager of
Ascendas India Trust ( a-iTrust ), has announced it will invest an estimated INR12 billion ( US $ 216.6 million ) to develop and operate phase one of its first data center campus on a prime site in India .
Sanjeev Dasgupta , CEO of the Trustee-Manager of a-iTrust , said : “ Our entry into the data center sector in India will diversify a-iTrust ’ s portfolio into an attractive and highly scalable asset class . India has the second fastest growing digital economy in the world . The large market size combined with the increasing trends towards data localization validates our market entry strategy .”
Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure to operate data centers in India
Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure have announced an agreement to establish a 50 / 50 joint venture focused on the development , ownership and operation of institutional quality data centers in India .
The joint venture will operate under the brand name ‘ BAM Digital Realty ’.
The joint venture is positioned to enable the significant expansion of PlatformDIGITAL , Digital Realty ’ s premier global data center platform which supports the evolving data , control and networking demands of global enterprises .
Its deployment across India is expected to enable customers to rapidly scale Digital Transformation by deploying critical infrastructure with a leading global data center provider at the heart of a growing connected data community in India .
Data centers developed in India will leverage Digital Realty ’ s industry-leading energy-efficient data center design and operating procedures and highly repeatable Pervasive Data Center Architecture ( PDx ) approach for the new digital workplace .
