NEWS Frost & Sullivan commends Nebula’s OneView TEM solution Based on its recent analysis of the enterprise telecommunications management industry, Frost & Sullivan recognises Nebula with the 2017 South African Enterprise Telecommunications Management Technology Innovation Award. Nebula has successfully expanded its award-winning OneView solution with the addition of the Integration Hub to the product suite. Nebula enables businesses to integrate outsourced business functions and IT on a single platform. OneView also enables employees to use their mobile devices to self-manage their business spend on company-owned or personal devices. “Given that Nebula launched the OneView solution just over a year ago, the speed at which the Integration Hub has been developed and launched is astounding,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst, George Etheredge. Nebula’s OneView product suite provides different levels of the enterprise with high to detailed levels of information about what employees or business units are spending on telecommunications, and this allows the business to perform continuous cost avoidance and optimisation. “Nebula’s growth expansion plans also include on-boarding Nebula team with Microsoft partner, ISV Representative (far right) international clients as well as supporting its local clients’ global expansion,” says Etheredge. “Nebula will also extend its product integration capabilities by seamlessly integrating Microsoft technologies, such as PowerBI and Mobile Device Management, into the OneView product offering.” Expanding to offer similar solutions for the IT environment generally will build brand loyalty for Nebula as the market will come to associate the firm with simplifying business rather than just focusing on telecommunications. Virtual teaching becomes a reality through new education technology Vodacom and the Eastern Cape Department of Education have taken the digitalisation of education in the province a step further through the launch of the ‘Virtual Teacher’ platform. The move follows Vodacom’s Programme for Mobile Devices, introduced in the province earlier this year to promote the use of digital technology in Eastern Cape schools. Virtual Teacher is a new interactive technology platform which allows an individual teacher or lecturer to deliver lessons in real time to multiple remote classrooms or locations simultaneously. Through a range of smart devices, learners can join classes from anywhere and at any time. For the first time 8 INTELLIGENTCIO in South Africa, the technology can be accessed through any personal device. The platform is supported through portable hardware which delivers high-quality visuals and sound. It can also accommodate unlimited viewer numbers. The technology enables live interaction with the remote audience through a texting Q&A facility for written responses during the lesson. Vuyani Jarana, Chief Officer at Vodacom Business, says: “Vodacom is working with the Eastern Cape Department of Education to address some of the challenges facing our education system, particularly in rural and underperforming schools. This is all about bringing innovative technology to those who need it most in order to improve learning outcomes for all education segments in our country. The future of the South African education system is digital and we must embrace the opportunities this offers to leapfrog infrastructural backlogs and legacy issues in our schools.” www.intelligentcio.com
