For this issue’s cover story, we speak to First Choice Global’s Managing Director, Alan Osoro, about the company’s search for a cloud provider when launching their mobile remittance app, SawaPay. First Choice Global had strict requirements surrounding the chosen vendor’s security and availability offerings and Dimension Data was the only cloud provider able to meet these criteria. Africa is largely mobile-first – and in some countries is even mobile-only. Whilst this offers the continent huge opportunity and access to services that would otherwise be out of reach, it also brings its own set of challenges; particularly when those mobile devices are introduced to the enterprise. In this issue’s feature on the subject of mobile malware, we look at the risks introduced when employee’s personal devices connect to the corporate network and industry experts offer advice on how to mitigate these risks. To quote Bryan Hamman, Territory Manager for sub-Saharan Africa at www.intelligentcio.com Arbor Networks, “Today, anyone with a grievance and an Internet connection can launch an attack.” This is the daunting reality as Hamman looks back at the last twenty years of distributed denial of service attacks and forward towards where we go from here to protect ourselves. Looking towards the future elsewhere, for this month’s Editor Question we ask industry experts what they foresee as being the most disruptive technologies to IT roles in 2018. For this month’s Country Focus feature we look at how the city of Cairo is utilising technology solutions to reform the quality of traffic. The city has implemented SensorTec’s surveillance systems and Infinet Wireless’ high-speed broadband connectivity and is seeing positive results in the form of enhanced traffic efficiency and security. RESHAPING THE FINANCIAL SERVICES LANDSCAPE IN AFRICA WITH THE CLOUD Alan Osoro, First Choice Global’s Managing Director, discusses how Dimension Data was the only cloud supplier able to meet FCG’s multiple requirements for security, availability and locality when launching its mobile remittance app. PROJECT LATEST | INTELLIGENT CABLING | INTELLIGENT DATA CENTRES importance of letting employees make and learn from their own decisions.
