AFL unveils Apex splice closure product line

AFL , an international manufacturer of fibre optic cable , equipment and accessories , recently launched the Apex family of fibre optic splice closures — the culmination of a multi-year development effort that includes extensive voice-ofcustomer surveys .

The Apex splice closure is designed to lower overall installation time with easier to use sealing and cable retention methods , along with industry-leading density , especially when coupled with AFL ’ s LM-series MicroCore cable or Wrapping Tube Cable powered by SpiderWeb Ribbon .
“ When I started my career in fibre optics as a field engineer , performing a 144-fibre backbone splice was considered a timely affair ,” explained Will Miller , Senior Product Manager for AFL ’ s Outside Plant Cable and Connectivity products . “ With today ’ s fibre counts as high as 6,912 , splice closure manufacturers have had to retrofit solutions to find compatibility with these increased densities . The Apex splice closures are designed with high density in mind . No retrofitting required .”
Field installers and engineers can perform 1,728 splices inside of a 20-inch long dome or 3,456 splices inside a 25-inch long dome . With an easy-to-use wedge-based gel sealing system , installation time is drastically decreased as network reliability increases .
The initial launch of Apex splice closures includes the X-2 and X-2S sizes which have maximum capacities of 1,728 and 3,456 fibres , respectively , when using 200 µ m SpiderWeb Ribbon . Additional sizes with lower and higher capacities will closely follow in 2021 . The Apex fibre optic splice closure expands AFL ’ s comprehensive line of fibre connectivity products including hardened pre-terminated multiport terminals and drops , fibre distribution hubs , closures , fieldinstallable connectors and more . Apex splice closures are ideal for applications including enterprise / campus LAN , ADSS core , utility fibre-to-the-home , service provider access , long line and dark fibre .
Founded in 1984 , AFL is an international manufacturer providing end-to-end solutions to the energy , service provider , enterprise and industrial markets as well as several emerging markets . The company ’ s products are in use in over 130 countries and include fibre optic cable and hardware , transmission and substation accessories , outside plant equipment , connectivity , test and inspection equipment , fusion splicers and training . AFL also provides a wide variety of services supporting data centre , enterprise , wireless and outside plant applications . p
