With a new order for two data centres from ERP Software Technologies (ERPST) in Ethiopia, Flexenclosure
successfully establishes a presence in its 21st African country. Flexenclosure’s turnkey prefabricated
eCentre data centres and eSite hybrid power systems for off-grid and bad-grid cell sites have made the
company a preferred supplier to the African ICT market. USTDA is partnering with Kenyan company, Xago Africa Limited, on developing a utility
scale solar photovoltaic power plant with battery storage in Siaya County, Kenya. North
Carolina-based Alevo USA, Inc., a battery storage technology manufacturer, will provide
technology and analytics services for the project. The plant will be among the first utility-
scale battery storage installations in sub-Saharan Africa.
Construction of the data centre modules is underway at Flexenclosure’s factory in Vara, Sweden, allowing
all critical systems to be fully tested before shipping begins. Deployment will take place at two separate
sites in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, later this year.
USTDA signed an additional grant with the Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited
(KenGen) for a study assessing the use of US technology solutions to increase energy
efficiency and power production.

Inmarsat will deploy LoRaWAN (low power wide area network) infrastructure around the city
of Kigali to support the Rwandan capital’s flagship smart city project. The network will be
the connectivity platform for a variety of Internet of things applications and will provide a
blueprint for smart city projects throughout Africa.
Reinforcing its commitment to Africa, Oracle have announced the opening of a new office
in Abuja that will focus exclusively on driving cloud adoption across Nigeria’s public sector.
The dedicated office, located in Maitama, will create new employment opportunities for
talented professionals. The office is equipped with modern communication tools to deliver an
exceptional customer experience.
The LoRaWAN network has been developed in partnership with Actility, the industry leader in
low power wide area networks for industrial IoT. The solution will provide city-wide coverage
that enables a variety of organisations to develop and deploy IoT applications on a large
scale, as well as allowing entrepreneurs to easily connect their front-end IoT devices through a
middleware layer. Applications could address any number of urban needs, including transport,
utilities, health and education.
Expanding presence across Africa to support a fast growing customer and partner base is a key
priority for Oracle. With the launch in Abuja, Oracle now operates 13 dedicated offices across
Africa. These include two each in Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa and single offices in Algeria,
Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco and Mauritius.
