NEWS South African online meal kit ’provider is ‘cooking up a storm Africa’s first private Healthcare Information Exchange set to drive health revolution C areConnect, a non-profit organisation founded by some of the largest medical insurance administrators and hospital groups in South Africa, has selected InterSystems to implement HealthShare Unified Care Record and HealthShare Patient Index to revolutionise the local healthcare system by providing unified access to vital patient information for the first time. HealthShare lets those in the medical industry overcome the challenges of decentralised data by consolidating information across multiple stakeholders when requested. The system delivers relevant data from across an application and business ecosystem, facilitating timely action through real-time communication. U COOK, South Africa’s largest online meal kit provider, has scaled from 24 meals in its first delivery five years ago, to thousands every week now thanks to Picup’s disruptive logistics solution. UCOOK’s expert food team collaborates with top SA chefs and food talent to produce 12 inspired recipes each week. Customers can choose their favourites online and have pre-portioned ingredients with recipe cards delivered. Bunna Booyens, UCOOK Head of Logistics, says Picup is responsible for around 2,600 of UCOOK’s weekly deliveries, ensuring that all meals are delivered on time and with a smile. “Customers can choose which recipes they’d like to cook each week,” he said. 12 INTELLIGENTCIO “This is the first substantial health data exchange of its kind in Africa and will dramatically improve South African patient care in the future,” said Henry Adams, Sales Manager for InterSystems South Africa. “Our fresh, locally sourced ingredients – in the perfect portions – are delivered straight to the doors of our customers each week.” Picup’s Transport Management System (TMS) helps streamline the entire logistics and last-mile delivery process. “The only time UCOOK has any human- to-human interaction with a customer is upon delivery,” said Booyens. “There are many reasons why UCOOK has entrusted Picup with so many of its last- mile deliveries. Firstly, Picup’s Transport Management System (TMS) offers a digital proof of delivery. With access to the Picup backend, we can view all PODs, delivery times, who the receiver of the parcel is and what their relation to the customer is.” “After an extensive procurement process by CareConnect, InterSystems was selected as the preferred technology provider thanks to its proven capabilities in Europe, especially the UK, and the US,” Dr Burnett Biddulph, CEO of CareConnect, believes CareConnect will benefit from the InterSystems track record of providing HIE services in various regions around the world. “We’re excited to be partnering with a company that has had global experience in developing health information exchanges,” he said. “We believe that the CareConnect HIE will usher in a new era for South Africa’s health system by transforming the healthcare experience for the patient and the health professional.” www.intelligentcio.com
