EDITOR’S
NOTE
H
ello and welcome to the 25th
edition of Intelligent CIO Africa. This
month’s front cover features the
work Decision Inc has done with Attacq, a
real estate company that is ranked among
the top 15 real estate companies listed
on the JSE by market capitalisation and
is included in the FTSE/JSE South African
Property Yield (SAPY) Index.
In South Africa, Attacq has 1,056 tenants,
so managing building needs is a huge
operational requirement and is fundamental
to the brand of the business. A pilot
programme using the MyBuildings mobile
app as an operations management tool was
implemented in October 2017.
The MyBuildings app gives Attacq’s
management real-time information,
with operational needs being addressed
expeditiously. Outstanding tasks can be
tracked centrally, continuously improving
tenant and customer service.
The company decided to enhance it with
an overlay of Decision Inc’s analytical
reporting features using the Qlik solution.
One of the strengths of the approach is
that Attacq can easily compare overall

operational metric performance and
measure that against key performance
indicators while still having the ability to
drill right down to granular source data.
We are now two months into 2019 and
many organisations are looking at how they
can improve their security measures. To
help, Ashraf Sheet, Regional Director, Middle
East and Africa at Infoblox, has provided a
list of cybersecurity trends that he says will
‘significantly alter the landscape’ this year.
This includes attacks powered by Artificial
Intelligence (AI); adhering to the General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); and
securing Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
When you think of a country that has a lot
of potential when it comes to technology,
Angola probably doesn’t instantly come to
mind. But the Southern African nation is
set to benefit from significant investments,
especially in agricultural technology.
This includes US$200 million from the
UAE that will go towards 18 agricultural
technology centres, while Vietnam has
joined forces to increase cooperation in
agriculture and technology, as part of the
ongoing economic diversification process
in the country. You can also read about
