NEWS Software from 6d Technologies overcomes connectivity problems F ield agents working for telecoms are being helped to overcome problems with poor connectivity in rural parts of Africa. The deployment of Engrafi from 6d Technologies across Chad, Senegal, Ghana, Tanzania and Angola has enabled a quick and convenient subscriber registration process despite connectivity problems. Engrafi allows subscribers to register themselves with quick digitalised forms, ensuring authentic verification of the user and reducing the chances of identity fraud and compliance abuse. Registration of subscribers becomes difficult in rural areas of developing countries where there is no proper internet connectivity for field agents to use. So to mitigate this, 6d’s Engrafi platform enables off-line collection of user information in case of low or no internet connectivity, meaning operators can process transactions when the connection is restored. Kenil Paul, Vice President at 6d Technologies, said: “There is no doubt that constant reforms from regulatory bodies are drafted to ensure safety and security, operators face various challenges in collecting information from the existing, as well as new, subscribers. “Intuitive interfaces and fraud handling, ensuring data authenticity and tight timelines, are other challenges faced by the operators. “Our product ‘Engrafi’, a subscriber registration solution, addresses all these challenges and brings a digitalised, easy, quick and user-friendly solution , which enhances customer experience.” ////////////////// BCX and GE partner to bring innovation to farming C ollaborative partners BCX, an information and communications technology company, and GE, a worldwide digital industrial enterprise, have developed an integrated agri-tech solution tailored for South African and African agricultures. The Digital Farm, created by BCX and GE, allows stakeholders to manage, predict, and control inputs and outputs across the agricultural supply chain. The solution will incorporate components or software applications that will allow visibility for various types of user information benefiting stakeholders such as farmers, retailers and consumers. “Agriculture plays such a vital role in the South African economy,” said Ian Russell, CEO of BCX. “With the advances in digital industrial technology, we recognised that there were significant opportunities 12 INTELLIGENTCIO to leverage that technology to increase efficiencies, profits, and ultimately the broader economy. “Beyond increasing output and efficiency for farmers, the solutions should have a trickle-down effect for South African consumers as well.” The solutions will be rolled out over the course of next year and will focus primarily on small to mid-sized farmers. Ali Saleh, SVP and Chief Commercial Officer for GE Digital Middle East, Africa and Turkey, said: “One of our key capabilities is leveraging solutions from one sector or industry and applying them to another.” www.intelligentcio.com
