PROJECT UPDATE LATEST REGIONAL PROJECT UPDATE RWANDA A new modern e-Waste Recycling Facility has been launched in Bugesera Industrial Park, with the goal of creating a developed, climate resilient and low carbon economy by 2050. Spearheaded by Ministry of Trade and Industry in partnership with Rwanda Green Fund, an investment close to US $1.5 million (Rwf1.26 billion) was mobilised to fund the design and implementation of a national e-waste management strategy and recycling facility. The key objectives of the project included; developing a strategy for e-waste management, standards for e-waste and a review of the policy and legal framework for e-waste management in Rwanda; establishing the relevant infrastructure and network for the collection, dismantling and recycling of e-waste and promoting employment opportunities, especially for youth and women. ANGOLA South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), the first submarine cable system across the South Atlantic, is in the final stretch of its installation between Africa and South America. Angola Cables, the company overseeing installation and the operations of SACS, and NEC Corporation, a Japanese system integrator of highest quality fibre optic cable systems and the turnkey contractor for SACS construction, has hired Orange Marine to commence shortly the deepwater laying of the cable. The deepwater phase of the installation will last 90 days and cover a distance of 6,200 km of cable at depths of up to 5,000 metres.
