LinkedIn survey reveals why MENA
professionals switch jobs
Candidate, higher compensation
elsewhere (41%) is still the main reason
people leave their jobs, with a better
fit for their skills and interest coming a
close second (38%), followed by more
growth opportunities (35%). A better
job title alone ranked much lower with
significantly less incentive to lure a
candidate into a role, at just 27%.

East and North Africa
According to LinkedIn’s annual talent
survey, Inside the Mind of Today’s
“Recruiters shouldn’t over-rely on salary
to hook the right candidate; finding
equilibrium between a suitable pay
cheque, opportunities for promotion
and growth, and a great work-life
balance is the key to keeping that
talent,” said Ali Matar, Head of LinkedIn
Talent Solutions, Emerging Markets,
Middle East and North Africa.
The report also revealed:
• Career FOMO (fear of missing out)
is a real thing. Candidates want to
avoid the bad feeling of losing a
dream opportunity.
• 58% of people are more likely to
respond to a message if it’s coming
directly from the Hiring Manger.
• 40% use a company’s website to
garner information before considering
or applying for a job. 63% of people
follow companies on social media to
stay aware of jobs.
• 65% of candidates want to
know more about roles and
responsibilities in the job, followed
by company mission and vision and
salary and benefits.
• 44% of candidates say a bad
interview experience makes them lose
interest in the job.
For the report, LinkedIn surveyed more
than 400 professionals across the Middle
East and North Africa region about their
attitudes and habits towards job-seeking.
Liquid Telecom and Huawei to deliver
100G links across South Africa
The 100G link will support growing demand for cloud-based
services and provide customers with high-speed access to Liquid
Telecom’s data centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town, which
are currently undergoing major expansions to meet the needs
of global cloud players and enterprise customers.
Liquid Telecom has partnered with Huawei to deliver 100G
upgrades to its network in South Africa. The upgrade will
take advantage of the latest DWDM technology from
Huawei, enabling Liquid Telecom to offer additional
capacity, faster speeds and greater redundancy to customers
across South Africa.
The first phase of the project will see Liquid Telecom deploy
Huawei’s OptiX OSN Solution along 1,200 km of its long-haul
network connecting Johannesburg and Cape Town.

In the second and third phase of the project, the DWDM
core network will be extended to the north-west then north-
east regions of South Africa, providing more enterprise and
wholesale customers in South Africa with high bandwidth
connectivity. In addition, the network upgrades will support
Liquid Telecom’s new CloudConnect for Microsoft Azure
ExpressRoute service, which enables customers to create
private, predictable, high performance, SLA-based connections
between Azure data centres and infrastructure on their
premises or in a colocation environment.
“Higher network speeds and bandwidth will play an integral
role in supporting the rise of the African cloud. Through our
partnership with Huawei, Liquid Telecom is ensuring that
its network is ready to meet the increasing demand from
businesses for cloud-based services,” said Nic Rudnick, Group
CEO, Liquid Telecom.
