The idea of celebrating ‘International Day of Yoga’, which is another initiative to spread Yoga globally, was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 27 September 2014. The UN- GA, following this initial proposal, held informal consultations on the draft reso- lution. The initiative found support from many global leaders and a total of 177 na- tions co-sponsored the resolution which is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA resolution of such nature. Thus an international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the UNGA and is being generally celebrated annually on 21 st June 25
