Over the succeeding six weeks, the committee held 35 meetings and reflected over thousands of submissions from Canadian citizens. It is speculated that there were approximately 2,000 unique designs submitted in 1964 in addition to 3,900 others that had accumulated over the years following Mackenzie King’s second attempt at redesigning the flag. After considering thousands of designs, the flag committee selected three final contenders.
