For the sake of simplicity , you can think of the genome as a book .
● Our DNA is composed of a four letter alphabet : A C , G , and T ( chemical bases ).
● Put together , these letters form 3-letter-words ( codons ).
● The words make up sentences ( genes ).
● The sentences are grouped into paragraphs ( gene clusters ).
● The paragraphs are organized into chapters ( chromosomes ).
● The chapters are bound together into a book ( genome ).
● A misspelled word or a sentence error is a type-o ( gene mutation ).
Our genome is very much like a cookbook . When this book is read , the genes provide the instructions , or recipes , to make proteins . Proteins are complex molecules required for the structure , function , and regulation of our body ’ s tissues and organs .
