EXERCISE ALPINE ADVENTURE Cadets and adult volunteers from Northumbria ACF travelled to the French Alps for one week of skiing. This year 45 excited individuals arrived in Serre Chevalier with many looking forward to their first time on the slopes. After being issued with boots, skis and safety helmets, individuals were allocated to a group depending upon previous experience and ability. The three beginners groups started on the gentle nursery slopes and soon mastered the basics of how to stop using the snowplough technique, and how to turn safely whilst controlling their speed. Once everyone was confident it was onto the ski lift then off up the mountains to develop their skills. It was amazing to see how quickly everyone progressed in confidence and ability. The intermediate and more expert groups, under the instruction of experienced army instructors, took to the more challenging ski runs available in the stunning alpine setting. The fun did not stop on the slopes, but continued into the evening when the cadets were able to explore the town and enjoy organised activities such as a karaoke evening. At the end of the action packed week those who were ready were tested and awarded their Ski Foundation Level I qualification.
