SHOOTING
Many cadets and adult
volunteers join the ACF in order
to participate in shooting. In
Northumbria cadets begin by
learning how to safely fire the
Scorpion air rifle whilst
applying the principles of
marksmanship. They then move
on to the .22 No8 and .22 target
rifles before progressing onto the 5.56mm service rifle and automatic Light
Support Weapon. For those who are really interested in competitive shooting
there is also the option to fire the 7.62mm target rifle. Everyone also has the
opportunity to undertake clay pigeon shooting.
This year our cadets took their shooting
abilities to new levels winning almost
every competition they entered. At the
junior level this included winning all
three of the North East RFCA air rifle
and .22 trophies. This success was
reflected in both service and target rifle shooting with Northumbria winning the Brigade
competitions and going on to compete in both disciplines at national and international
level at Bisley. The trophies won are too numerous to mention but special mention must
go to Cadet Bdr Bethany Charlton who became the first member of NACF to become a
member of the UK Athelings team which travelled to Canada for six weeks of
competition shooting against
Canadian cadets. Cadet CSM
Tordorff is set to do the same in
2016. Sgt Furness and Cpl Ball
also spent their summer holidays
in Canada attending the Cadet
Leadership and Marksmanship
course. Twenty others achieved
Cadet 100 status (the top 100
