ANNUAL CAMP
Annual camp is always one of the highlights of the training year and in the
school summer holiday period over 500 members of NACF spent two weeks at
Barry Buddon, just north of Dundee in Scotland. A modern and comfortable
camp which has
excellent range and
training facilities
located next to a
golden sandy
beach. We hosted
20 members of the
Air Training Corps
who although
apprehensive at
first, were made
very welcome and
thoroughly enjoyed
their time with us.
Split into Company
size groups according to their level of training, the cadets had the opportunity
to undertake packages to develop their skill at arms and shooting, fieldcraft
and tactics, first aid and leadership. In addition the cadets were also able to
participate in adventure training including canoeing, climbing, mountain
biking, a “Go Ape” style high ropes course and coasteering. Groups also
completed their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions in the surrounding stunning
countryside.
Our senior cadets even visited RAF Leuchars to undertake a day’s flying,
However, it was not all work with plenty of
opportunity to take part in archery,
organised sport and for the junior cadets a
day out in Dundee, including a trip to the
leisure pool.. Whilst senior cadets had a
regimental dinner night.
A series of VIP visitors came to spend time
with the cadets all of whom commented
that they were impressed by their
enthusiasm and standard of training. In
2016 the cadets will be closer to home in
the familiar training areas of Otterburn,
whilst camp 2017 will see the County travel
to Pirbright in Surrey.
