EXERCISE ALPINE ADVENTURE
Cadets and adult
volunteers from
Northumbria ACF
travelled to the French
Alps for one week of
skiing. This year 45
excited individuals
arrived in Serre
Chevalier with many
looking forward to
their first time on the
slopes. After being
issued with boots, skis and safety helmets, individuals were allocated to a
group depending upon previous experience and ability. The three beginners groups started on the gentle nursery slopes and
soon mastered the basics of how to stop using the snowplough technique, and how to turn safely whilst controlling their speed.
Once everyone was confident it was onto the ski lift then off up the mountains to develop their skills. It was amazing to see
how quickly everyone progressed in confidence and ability. The
intermediate and more expert groups, under the instruction of
experienced army instructors, took to the more challenging ski
runs available in the stunning alpine setting. The fun did not stop
on the slopes, but continued into the evening when the cadets
were able to explore the town and enjoy organised activities such
as a karaoke evening. At the end of the action packed week those
who were ready were tested
and awarded their Ski Foundation Level I qualification.
The journey back to County HQ was packed with talk of the
cadets’ adventures and experiences, [
