EXERCISE NORTHUMBRIA WARRIOR
Exercise Northumbria Warrior is a military skills competition, held on Otterburn Training
Area, for army cadets organised and run by the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
Prior to this X Company team had assembled under the direction of Cadet CSM James
Tordoff, and began their training at Cowpen, where they covered all the aspects of what
they expected to encounter on the competition. Ensuring that weapon handling was of a
high standard, practicing first aid and refreshing fieldcraft knowledge.
Friday night at Otterburn was spent ensuring that the team members had everything that
they needed for the next two days, before drawing weapons and personal radios and
patrolling to their harbour area to spend the night. The competition began on Saturday
morning with a comprehensive equipment check by the RSM of 5RRF followed by a ride in a
Troop Carrying Vehicle and a short march to
the first stand, an observation lane. The
weekend continued with a number of stands
including a very realistic first aid scenario,
dealing with simulated casualties injured in an
explosion, a sniper stalk which culminated
with live firing against targets from a Scorpion armoured vehicle, and an ambush on an enemy
