2014 marked one hundred years
since the outbreak of WW1. In many
ways the conflict affected everyone,
and had a huge impact on the
development of the society we all
know today. Families and communities made huge
sacrifices in defence of their country, with the population of
the North East being no exception. It is right that those
sacrifices are not forgotten and over the next four years
Northumbria ACF will be supporting the Army’s approach
to commemorations by undertaking a range of activities.
“Operation Reflect” is structured to enable our
cadets to gain a broad understanding of the
causes, conduct and consequences of the war
that was hoped would end all wars. We have a
varied and interesting programme of events which is
growing all the time, at locations locally, across the UK
was well as on the European battlefields. All members of
the County are encouraged to get involved in
commemoration activities and to identify and develop
opportunities within their local communities and in liaison
with their affiliated Reserve units. Activities can be linked
to the volunteering or skills sections of the Duke of
Edinburgh Award and also the cadet and the community
and military knowledge sections of the APC syllabus.
