Sometimes little fundraisers are a really big deal , especially when the ones giving are little themselves . That is why Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children launched its Keiki for Kapiʻolani program , honoring a new generation of donors . As the chief executive officer at Kapiʻolani , the late Martha Smith encouraged her leadership team to celebrate kids supporting kids by attending check presentations and cheering them on . These special kids learn early in life that their efforts can make a difference for their community . Let them be an example to us all that giving is a choice – no matter your age . Meet some of the keiki who used their time and talents to help others .
SINGING FOR SAVING
Jayli Franklin is an 11-year-old who knows the healing power of song . For the past four years , Jayli has taken requests for videos of her singing in exchange for monetary donations to Kapiʻolani . She promotes her campaign , which she calls “ Singing for Saving ,“ through social media and presents the pledges she receives from family and friends along with her birthday money every year . The ʻEwa Beach girl ‘ s commitment to help hospitalized keiki has raised more than $ 1,000 .

SPECIAL BIRTHDAY COLLECTION
What a birthday celebration for Hawai ‘ i ‘ s Children ‘ s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion ! Haumea Friel and her family turned her 6th birthday into a fundraiser for Kapiʻolani Medical Center . Instead of gifts , Haumea ‘ s invitation suggested loved ones drop off donations at her drive-by party . Guests lined up in their cars to wave to the birthday girl and were surprised with the coolest party favors ! Friends and family took home a whole pizza as well as a box of pastry treats from CMN partner Dunkin ‘ Donuts . In all , Haumea spent her special day collecting $ 3,034 in donations . Hawai ‘ i ‘ s courageous Champion , who has undergone nearly a dozen surgeries at Kapi ‘ olani for her “ super leg ,“ continues to be a role model for kids and CMN supporters .

PEDAL FOR PIPER
When it comes to going the distance for other kids , Piper Liles and her family are good examples . They created the Pedal 4 Piper campaign , a cycling fundraiser that supports children and families dealing with anorexia , bulimia and negative body images . They pedaled in $ 3,834 worth of donations for Kapiʻolani ! Dad Jeff Liles set the project in motion to help kids like his daughter , Piper , who had her own treatment journey with anorexia . The 9-year-old ‘ s family found amazing support and resources at Kapi ‘ olani . Pedal 4 Piper not only raises money , but it also raises awareness for kids with eating disorders to let them know they are not alone and there is a path back to health .
