Inspire Change Wellness Guide to Avoid Slipping Into Prescription Drug Add | Page 14
4.Throw Out Unused Medication
Don’t keep drugs that are no longer in use in your medicine cabinets. While you
may be safe from abusing them, other members of the family may not. Always
throw out drugs once you are done with a prescription. You can dispose of them
through the drug take-back programs. You will save your household from abusing
the drugs and also protect them from consuming expired drugs which may have
been sitting in the cabinet for years.
5.Find Alternatives
If you are worried that you may get addicted to a specific drug, you can always find
an alternative form of treatment. Share your concerns with the health care provider
so that they can recommend an alternative prescription drug addiction treatment.
Also, you can opt for non-medical approaches to pain management such as massage
therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and many more. If these treatments help
alleviate pain without exposing you to an addictive drug, they are worth the try.
However, always consult your physician before ditching medication for alternative
treatments.
