SILLY NOMADS

was only 100 yards away from our home . We would catch crabs using uncooked chicken fat and chase after each other in the tarry Murky swamp in a game called " stucky " aka tag . In Newlands where my grandmother lived , life was simpler . We would wander far away from home , sometimes to gather fire wood so that she could cook dinner for us . Life in Jamaica was great !
What makes “ Silly Nomads ” different from the other books for children ? “ Silly Nomads " is a story of two young brothers living in Jamaica who have very large imaginations and a healthy dose of mischievousness . In our first book “ Silly Nomads from Palmerston Close ”, 10-year-old Suhcrom and
8-year-old Naddih decide to become nomads after seeing a documentary on television . What ensues is a funny tale geared toward children ages 8-12 , but a delight for readers of all ages . Our stories were written in a way to bring a taste of the Jamaican culture to young readers through the hilarious characters of Suhcrom and Naddih . The books introduce children to a different culture and language through incorporating some of the native language , Patois . Many have commented that although the stories present Jamaican culture in particular , they are global in perspective and have a universal appeal to children all over the world .
Who are the books SILLY NOMADS useful for ? Silly Nomads introduces readers to a different culture and language . We continue to receive much feedback from teachers and parents who often comment on how engage the children are in the books and how much fun they have retelling the adventures of Suhcrom and Naddih .
What positive changes have you seen in your students while exploring the adventures of the two brothers in the books ? I remember speaking to young readers at a school in the Binghamton , NY area . The next day , I received an email from the father of one of the children . He thanked me for writing books that ignited his son ' s new interest in reading . It truly made my day .
