We run quickly towards the bushes and we see a crying lady. She must be in a lot of pain, I think, her foot is trapped. The woman seems to be relieved to sees us. Unfortunately, I can’ t understand a word she is saying.
I hear Russie saying” Hola! Como estas?”* and starts a conversation with the injured lady. I look at them and wonder what’ s happening. What language are the two women speaking? Russie turns to me and says“ Frank, this lady is Spanish and she seems lost. Luckily I lived in Spain for four years and remember a few words … She mentioned something about her friends … but I am afraid my Spanish is not good enough … I wish I had studied harder, Frank.”, my teacher says sadly.“ Let’ s call the ambulance! Look, the woman is in agony.” I grab my phone and dial 120. Shortly someone answers my call and I explain to them all about the emergency. They say
they’ ll send a helicopter soon. Meanwhile, Russie is calming down Bea, our new friend, and I can see she’ s shared one of our sandwiches with her. I suggest we show some of our photos to the woman so that we keep her mind away from the pain. She seems quite grateful that we are keeping her company. I see Russie really struggling with her Spanish. It must be a very difficult language. Soon the helicopter arrives and two paramedics come to help Bea. After examining her foot, they decide to take her to hospital. It appears that it ´ s been broken. But we know that she is in good hands and will get help. Bea hugs us and thanks for our assistance and company.
Pleased that we could help the Spanish lady, we head off to the nearest cable car spot to continue our mountain adventure.
