Hi everyone,
Did you feel inspired to go to the West Lake after reading about our adventures there? I have to admit it was really interesting. But now we are on the way to Guangzhou to dip into the traditional Chinese culture. Russie and I are about to get on a plane to the city but the heat is unbearable. While waiting at the gate, Russie buys a guide book to brush up on her general knowledge about the country.“ Look, Frank,“ she says,” Here’ s some tips about travelling in Guangzhou.”
1. Be careful of your bags and valuables when in a railway station. 2. Avoid going out at night. 3. Take a taxi, especially yellow ones; never take a motorcycle. 4. Take good care of your belongings anytime you are in the street.
5. Avoid responding to strangers.
“ Oh, Frank, I should be really careful. Remember, how I lost my handbag a few days ago.” Russie tells me in a sad tone.
Three hours later …
When we step out of the airport, we can’ t help noticing the skyscrapers. There’ s definitely a different feel to the city here. It is the third most populated city on mainland China and life here seems quite hectic. We had a snack on the plane, so we quickly get to the hotel to check in and refresh. We don’ t want to waste any time so we go straight out sightseeing. Our first stop is Ancestral Temple of Chen Family, now known as the Museum of Folk Arts and Crafts. Some of the most impressive attractions of the Temple are the wonderful carvings depicting nature. They are made from wood, brick, clay, stone and lime and we find the wooden carvings quite impressive because they demonstrate the great achievements of the art of modelling in Guangdong Province. Stories of historical celebrities and scenes are also represented in the museum. According to legend, during the Qing Dynasty, a man named Chen got third place in the highest imperial examination which made the Family Chen well-known. Later it was suggested that all Chen ' s family would raise money to build a temple to sacrifice
