Step 1 Warm-up Write the question“ What is LOVE” on the board and brainstorm the students’ answers. Step 2 Video activity Tell the students they are going to see an episode of the TV series“ What’ s the big idea” which explores the concept of LOVE. Play the video until 1:05 and check what Hugo thinks about LOVE. Have the students mentioned the same idea? Ask the students if Hugo can love his spade. After discussing their ideas, play the video until 1:21 and check the answer. Then play the video until 2:15 when Hugo asks the question“ Are there different kinds of LOVE?” At this stage you can put the pupils in groups to ponder on the question. After discussing their answers, play the video to see what Hugo thinks and pause it at 3:45. Now it is time to consider what love makes us feel. You can write the feelings your students come up with on the board and then play the video till the end. Finally Hugo wonders if LOVE can make us feel sad. What do your students think about it? Ask them to give you some examples. Step 3 Create a Word Search Students use the vocabulary about feelings from the previous exercise to create a Word Search. They can do this online using http:// puzzlemaker. discoveryeducation. com / WordSearchSetupForm. asp or on a piece of paper. It’ s a great way to practise spelling. They swap their creations to test their classmates’ spelling skills. Step 4 Send a nice message Students work individually and send a nice message to a friend. They can create an online one on this website: http:// more2. starfall. com / m / holiday / valentine-card / play. htm? f & ref = main. or design their own card.
