Many of Fidaner’s portraits from this series
feature women with eyes downcast, seemingly
in sleep, resignation or evasion from the gaze
of the viewer. When the subjects do make
eye contact with the lens, they do so with
an austere gaze, as though plagued by some
secret, afflicted by some internal demon or
trapped by some peculiar circumstance.
Veiled by gentle lighting and softening edits,
Fidaner’s direction creates fluid sympathy, his
subjects pulling at you from the murky capture
of his alluring portraits, begging for release.
