This musician turned designer, turned dog
breeder, turned photographer, would no
doubt have trouble condensing the tale of
his remarkable journey, but the greatness of
Aleksandar Gligoric can be summed in one
word: passion.
Born in 1979 in Novi Sad, the capital of
culture in former Yugoslavia, a young Gligoric
could be found immersing himself in the arts,
with a special interest in photography and
music. His father was a rock singer, and under
that influence Gligoric became fascinated
with photography, but also learned to play
the guitar and drums, and eventually played
in several influential punk bands himself.
“Punk is a way of life for me, and it’s
influenced my work and life in the best
possible way. Music has made me who I am,”
says Gligoric.
His father also had a collection of analog
cameras, and while photography proved to
be an immediate calling for Gligoric, at the
time it could be no more than a mere hobby.
Not immune to the war torn crisis of his
country in the 1990’s, Gligoric was forced to
set aside his real interests and talents to help
support his family.
