4/ Why is your work more in black and white, than in
color?
Well, first of all I like classic things, and second I am
more comfortable with black and white. It's often said that
we dream in black and white, I don't know if it's true, but I
see pictures as something unreal, that doesn't represent
reality. Plossu used to say "an image doesn't freeze
anything, it evokes, brings to mind." I don't want to
reproduce reality, color to me seems too realistic, and I
don't see colors with my eyes. I sometimes do work in color
and gladly people like my color work, but I don't see my
images in a color "format". Then there is the development,
even though it's not that complicated, it asks a discipline
and for a big amount of money and since I only work film at
some point it's going to cost me a lot, even though there are
great labs in Paris I wouldn't be able to go there all the
time, because as a lab techincian I need to have full control
over my images. It doesn't mean I will never do any, funny
thing is I am now directing a movie in color, so in a sense
you could say I am approaching it in a different way.
