United Way of the Brazos Valley announces the return of Over the Edge Brazos Valley . Participants will rappel down the 110-foot Hilton College Station on September 7 after raising a minimum of $ 1,000 benefitting United Way of the Brazos Valley .
“ Over the Edge was such a successful event in 2016 ,” says Alison Prince , president and CEO of United Way of the Brazos Valley . “ We raised over $ 130,000 to fight for the health , education , and financial stability of every person in the Brazos Valley . We are thrilled to launch registration for Over the Edge 2017 where we are sure more funds will be raised to address critical community needs right here in our community .”
To earn a spot on the rappel list , participants register online , create a unique fundraising page , and then share it with friends , family members , and coworkers who then pledge funds in support of their designated participant . When the fundraising goal of at least $ 1,000 is met , the participant has secured a rappel spot .

Over the last four years , United Way of the Brazos Valley has provided more than $ 1.5 million in grant funding to local nonprofit organizations working to end social issues . They have answered calls and provided referral information for nearly 200,000 residents in need through their 2-1-1 Texas service . United Way provides the only regional volunteer connection point and inspires more than 30 high school students from seven area high schools each year to engage in community leadership through Youth Leadership Cabinet . Last year the Cabinet provided over $ 7,000 in mini-grants . In just 2015 , more than 62,000 people in the Brazos Valley were affected by the collective efforts of United Way of the Brazos Valley .
The mission of United Way of the Brazos Valley is to fight for the education , financial stability , and health of every person in the Brazos Valley by working to solve the community ’ s most daunting social issues , engaging individuals to build strategies , and mobilizing resources to invest for change . Through Community Impact Grants to local nonprofit organizations and Investment Initiatives including 2-1-1 Texas , Youth Leadership Cabinet , the volunteer connection point , and the Financial Stability Innovation Fund , United Way is creating measurable change in specific community issues .
