Play a Hand For Hospice

n January 27, nearly 200 members of the community
will stream into the Miramont Country Club in Bryan to
participate in Hospice Auxiliary of Brazos Valley’s fourth
annual “Play a Hand for Hospice” fundraiser.
This event, which benefits Hospice Brazos Valley, allows
guests to enjoy coffee or tea and socializing with fellow
community members, while playing board and card games
in tables of four. Games include dominoes, bridge, canasta,
mahjong, and shanghai.
Lunch will be served during the event and members of
the Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, “The Aggienizors,”
will provide entertainment. In addition to refreshments and
music, guests have the opportunity to win prizes. Communitydonated door prizes will be presented throughout the
afternoon. Previous year’s door prizes have included quilts,
works of art, jewelry, and gift cards to local restaurants and
salons.
“We look forward to this event as everyone has a fun day
playing their respective games, [enjoying] a chance to win a
door prize, and supporting Hospice,” says Hospice Auxiliary
Treasurer Judy Nash.
Hospice Auxiliary Brazos Valley is a nonprofit organization
that conducts meetings and fundraisers throughout the year
to raise support and funds for Hospice Brazos Valley, a nonprofit organization in Bryan providing end-of-life care for
residents in the community. Hospice Auxiliary raises money
to promote and provide awareness of Hospice Brazos Valley’s
mission, says Felicita Longnecker, publicity chairman for
Hospice Auxiliary.
“The most exciting thing is how much our community
supports Hospice,” says Longnecker. “The community is so
generous and this really, really helps our way of providing
financial support for the Hospice Brazos Valley.”
Tickets for the event are $65 per person, and the number
of participants is capped at 200. Last year, 175 participants
attended the “Play a Hand for Hospice” event, raising an
estimated $6,200.
“The reason we’re here is for Hospice Brazos Valley,” says
Longnecker. “What we’re doing is just promoting them and
that’s really our primary mission.”
