MUSIC INSIGHT
player Kelcie Pugh, singer and
spoons player Kelsey Girdwood
and fiddle player Gillian McCary
— all let out a collective cackle at
the song’s description. The band
knows how to be serious, though
they seldom are, which is reflected
in the music video.
“It has a hammy, campy kind of
fun for the video, though,” said
Dempsey, who described a Twilight Zone parody narrative that
works as a framing device for the
song. The band tapped local director Adolph Steele to film the video,
and carried out shoots over a few
weeks in August.
The premiere show for the video
promises to be exciting, with Neewollah in the morning of Oct. 29
and the Zombie Pub Crawl picking
up later that evening. There’s no
cover charge, and the Rattlers —
who are normally in-costume anyway — will be dressing up to bring
a little more Halloween spirit.
The band will release a single version of “What a Shame” within a
few weeks after the show, with
plans to release a full-length album
sometime in early 2017, which will
also feature the song, as well as
more of the band’s originals.
Want to see the Rattlers this
month? They’ll be performing
Oct. 12 in Nashville, Tennessee at
Phat Bites to raise money for The
Nashville Basket Brigade and are
playing Oct. 15 in Rome, Georgia at
32
the Fiddlin’ Between the Rivers Festival, an all-day
outdoor event. Finally, they’re premiering the
music video for “What a Shame” on Oct. 29 at the
Peerless in Anniston, with a show from 9-1 a.m.
and no cover charge.
