Neewollah
Oct. 25, 10-4 p.m.
Noble Street
Anniston
Spirit of Anniston’s fall celebration of
spooks, ghouls and treats returns to Noble
Street this year, building on the success of
last year’s first annual Neewollah.
“It’s a lot of the same things we did last
year, but we quadrupled everything,” said
Charity Duncan, event coordinator at Spirit
of Anniston. “Last year’s pumpkin painting
contest had a couple hundred pumpkins for
the kids; this year we’re ordering a thousand.”
Returning from last year’s fest are the
costume contests for different age groups
(last year’s Harry Potter couple and
Gryffindor dog were amazing), as well
as a merchant scarecrow contest where
attendees can vote for their favorites.
Kids and pets both can take a treat walk
past Noble Street businesses, picking up
candy and greeting local store owners as
they pass out goodies, participate in the
age-bracketed pumpkin decorating contest
(with all materials provided by the festival),
and if your youngster is dreaming of
getting a tattoo one day, they can give it a
temporary try by getting their face painted.
They can also take a trip over to the kids
area, with more activities, or take a leap into
the bounce houses.
Grown-ups can get in on the fun, too, by
taking a ride down the street in a horsedrawn carriage, or chowing down on Kevin
Fagan’s fried Oreos and funnel cakes.
