Landmine Spring Music INSIGHT Jason Fifi Jason Fifi is a comic from Montgomery, Alabama. He is consistently the funniest comedian on the planet earth, not counting any other comic on the planet earth. He has been called a “thinking man’s comic” by people that don’t realize how backhanded of a compliment that is. When asked for audience reviews at one of his shows last year, these comments were made: “I liked the one about dicks. dicks are funny.” -mark twain. “That thing he did about dentists was a really solid observation. I wish i was better at writing observations.” - Jerry Seinfeld “Don’t believe your own press.” - Tupac Shakur. “Which one of those jokes was supposed to be smart? I don’t get it, and that kid has no future doing anything at all. You can quote me on this; Jason Fifi is the least funny person on planet earth, and his mother should be ashamed of him.” - Neil Degrasse Tyson Landmine Spring is a punk rock outfit from Anniston, Alabama consisting of guitarist Drew Ponder, his brother and drummer Will Ponder, and bassist Matt Tyson. The trio first came together in late 2007 under the name American Nightmare as a Misfits cover band. After a few years, a name change, and too many cover sets, the band decided to take things in a different direction. Drawing from hardcore punk legends like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and Suicidal Tendencies, along with 90’s powerhouses Nirvana, Quicksand, and Alice in Chains, Landmine Spring emerged in the summer of 2011 with a brand new catalogue of heavy, aggressive music. The band quickly became known for their energetic and carefree live performances. Their simple but unique sound comprises just as much attitude as it does musicianship. With heavy bass, crushing guitar, and brutal drumming, Landmine Spring strives to rock as hard as possible while throwing everything else out the window. Other than a couple of homemade demos and a minimal internet presence, Landmine Spring has done little to gain exposure or bring attention to themselves. As of now, the only way to hear their music is through an up close and personal live performance--which is just how they prefer it. 48 October 2013 INSIGHT
