INSIGHT: What’s your history?

JC: I started for real when I was out of high school.
for it. After that I opened up the Iron Bowl on national TV. I
put out my first mixtape that year, too.
I: All this in two years, man? That’s quick. How are you keeping up with the pace?
I: When was that?
JC: 2011.
JC: It’s actually moving too slow for me. I’m so focused on
getting to the next thing. It moves slow to me. On the outside, looking in, it looks like it’s moving fast.
I: You’re young, man!
JC: Yeah. [laughs] I was doing it in high school but I didn’t
really take it seriously. Then I got out and really started in
with it.
I: Did you start paying attention to writing more?
JC: I just started taking it more seriously. When I was in high
school, I had about 130 songs. I put them on the internet,
back to back to back. I took it more seriously after high
school, trying to promote it more, and not just throwing it
out there on the internet. That summer, I had done a song
about a football player, and they put me in the newspaper

I: From our perspective, it’s definitely quick. What do you
attribute to your moving the way you’re moving up?
JC: I think it’s just that I’m different. I think of ways to catch
people’s attention. The football stuff was an attention
catcher. A video I just put out, it got like 300,000 views on
Youtube. I had the rebel flag on my head.
I: That’s a pretty big statement, too. Was that your idea?
JC: Me and them [points to Lukas Payne of Karltin Bankz,
Flamez’s manager] came up with it. I had worn the flag for a
