You come from a family of musicians
and songwriters. Did your family propel
you into following this passion?
Absolutely. Music was just such a big part
of the family that it was always around. You
couldn’t help but listen to songs that my
dad was writing or my uncle was a writer,
and he’d come in for the holidays and play
these amazing songs. You get it at a very
early age, and I think that’s kind of where it
starts, you know? Country music grabbed
us really, really young, and here we are -
not so young - and we’re still doing it. You
know my brother is still in the business, still
writing songs, and it’s just something that
just got us really early and never let loose.

Music plays such a vital role in our
culture. What do you love about it?
That’s one of the most special things about
music. If you take music out of this world
it would be miserable, let’ be real. I don’t
think that we realize how special it is, but
for me it’s something I wake up to on an
alarm. I wake up to a song and so music
literally starts my day, and I do it all day,
every day and I’m still not tired of it. It’s a
special, special thing.
Does the attention you’ve gotten
and the success you’ve had so far put
pressure on you to do the next thing
even bigger and better?
