“The thing I like is people who get it, they’re
in on the secret, that’s why I wear those
shirts,” said Lauren. “You get that reference,
strike up conversations.”
Similarly, her cosplay catches the eye of
fans of cult movies, with accurate, detailed
costumes like Pris
from Blade Runner or
a female Feyd Rautha
from Dune. She even
grabs the attention of
the creators of the films
and shows, like a run-in
with Kids in the Hall alum
Scott Thompson while
dressed as the show’s
beloved Chicken Lady
character, which ended up
tweeted around between
Thompson and other cast
members who loved the
costume. She reasons that
her costuming choices, like her various art
mediums, have to keep her entertained. To
do that, they’ve got to be unique.
“I like to pick things no one else would’ve
done. I don’t like being one of the five billion
Harley Quinns in the room, or Amy Pond,”
she said. “You can’t swing a Harley Quinn
without hitting an Amy Pond.”
