before long she had opened three more
stores there in Georgia.”
Having had the opportunity to meet
people within the Smallcakes company,
the Greens sat down and decided this was
something they could do.
“The summer of 2013 we started getting
the ball rolling,” Jason says. They got their
son enrolled in Oxford City School, and
tag-teamed for a few months to get the
business up and running. “On my off days
I would come over and we would kind of
pass each other on the interstate and high-
five,” he says.
Jason left the police department on
Halloween, and by Thanksgiving,
Smallcakes Cupcakery Oxford opened.
A degree in interior design gave Jennifer a
leg up when it came to designing the store.
The Greens say they were given a lot of
freedom with how they wanted to decorate
and present their business. “Every store you
INSIGHT
go in will look different,” Jennifer says.
While all Smallcakes cupcake recipes are
the same across the country, the Greens
do have some wiggle room to be creative.
“Outside of cupcakes we’ve got the liberty
to play with cakes and whatever else we
want to play with,” Jason says. “Even the
flavor,” Jennifer added. “You’ll see some
stores won’t have the same daily flavors
that we do.”
Jason bakes fresh cupcakes every day and
says that he has always liked to cook. “Im
comfortable in a kitchen,” he says. “Cooking
regular food and these is a little different.
When I’m at home cooking regular food it’s
a little pinch of this, a little pinch of that,
but this is a little more precise, especially
with the liquids.”
Aside from providing consistently delicious
products, the Greens care deeply about
providing exceptional customer service.
