Mata’s Greek Pizza: Taking an unprecedented lead, Mata’s is the undeniable winner when it comes to everybody’s favorites in Calhoun County. The pizza is one thing — thick crust, tons of cheese and toppings all the way — but the Greek salad pulled a lot of honors as well. In fact, almost everyone who mentioned the restaurant said pizza and salad, though Greg Huff pointed out the grinder as an excellent option (try one for lunch if you’re eating at the office — it’s still pizza, but a whole lot more manageable). Classic (Various Locations): Saying “Classic” is at the top might be a little misleading, given that the restaurant has three different locations — Classic on Noble, Classic at Buckhorn and Classic Too — but it’s clear that the Classic foods of these restaurants from owner David Mashburn more than make up for location confusion. From their shrimp and grits that made Alabama Tourism’s “100 Alabama Dishes to Eat Before You Die” list to simpler favorites like veggie wraps at Classic Too, Classic is one of your favorite places to eat.
