3. Ruffner Mountain
TRAIL MAP
Ruffner Mountain is a 1,038-acre urban nature preserve in
Birmingham. Ruffner, an old iron ore mine, is home to 14 miles
of trails that branch throughout the mountain. The trails are open to the public for running
and hiking everyday, from dawn to dusk. Anyone who uses the trails is encouraged to
sign up for a membership, or make a $3 donation for trail upkeep. To learn more visit
