EAT LIKE A LOCAL By Kelsey Butler Phelps and her husband, Johnnie, opened The Coffee Clef on April 17 with the intention of serving light sandwiches and pastries to accompany the coffee, but Phelps says customers started asking for home cooking. And she listened. I n just a few weeks, the new coffee shop on Noble Street in Anniston, The Coffee Clef, has expanded to The Coffee Clef Cafe, now serving home style cooking. “It has just kind of blos- somed,” says owner, Marilyn Phelps. 28 July 2017 “We just decided they were right, and it’s been amazing,” says Phelps. “We try to think back to what we ate at our grand- parent’s house on a Sunday afternoon, and that’s the kind of food that we try to make.” The Coffee Clef Cafe now offers a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.
