“ I could gauge the level of ass-whippin ’: if she wanted to wait until the car or until we got home , that was a green level ; at orange or red she ’ d take me to the bathroom , and if I knocked over a lamp she had to pay for she ’ d whup my ass right there in aisle 12 ,” said Knight , laughing .
These days his mom is enjoying her son ’ s entry to the mainstream , keeping an eye out for people staring at him in public places so she can confirm to them that , yes , he ’ s that guy .
