T
he midsummer video game lull
is upon us, with hits few and
far between for the next couple
of months before the holiday explosion.
We’ve been killing time with Watch Dogs
for the last month, hacking sewer grates
(we don’t get it, either) and grenades still
on the belts of the guards that own them
(also beyond explanation, but so darn fun).
Though there isn’t a lot hitting this summer,
E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the
biggest video game showcase worldwide)
revealed a lot of upcoming titles that we’re
itching to get at.
the same cats who created the Halo series,
widely considered one of the greatest FPS
games of all time. The story puts players in
a post-apocalyptic future, protecting the
last human settlement and the final remnants of mankind from alien forces. With the
Halo pedigree and a development cycle that
stretched nearly half a decade, Destiny is
poised to be a massive, “let’s wait in line for
hours at midnight”-style release.
Some of these new titles are silly, some are
scary and others are just plain awesome,
and we had to share our thoughts on some
of the biggest names:
Alien games have had a hard run. Developers have tried to recreate the amazing experience of James Cameron’s “Aliens,” relying
on early atmosphere and bombastic battles,
often devolving into boring bug-hunts. Isolation instead follows up Ridley Scott’s original film, taking a single character — Ellen
Ripley’s daughter, Amanda — as she investigates her mother’s disappearance while
evading a single, unkillable xenomorph.
