Secondhand Jones proves with their debut album that all great artists start somewhere . The band draws inspiration from The Black Crowes , Incubus , and The Red Hot Chili Peppers to name a few . The result is a blend of riff-based rock and moments of melodic and almost atmospheric jaunts that overlay often raw and direct lyrics . The band uses their instruments to create an experience , and by no coincidence , create a pocket that allows the vocals to fit in while also shining through .

The album kicks off with “ Look Away ”. A somewhat funky guitar riff is played over a nod worthy drum beat . This is a personal favorite simply because of the beautiful guitar solo after the second chorus . I found myself closing my eyes to picture the jam session happening in the second half of this song . It ’ s as though the instruments are playing a game of musical chess . I ’ m not sure who wins , but I do know it ’ s one hell of a match . To be honest , I ' m sweating . Kudos to you men , kudos .
“ Wake Up ” gives us a startling glimpse into our own reality . Starting subtly with a slow riff that eases the mind and spirit , the track picks up energy from high hats and then the drum line brings in the madness . Dust off the air guitar folks , you can ’ t
