February 1. The restaurant is
owned and operated by Ken McIntyre,
who took over the building’s lease when
the former owner closed in November
2018.
McIntyre is opening his own restaurant
in the original Heroes building and says
he’s looking forward to the community’s
response to the changes he’s made. “I know
from talking to a lot of people they think
that the old owner closed and I reopened
and everything’s the same,” he explains. “I’m
probably most excited about just seeing
people’s reaction and helping them adjust
to what Heroes is now versus what it was
before.”
McIntyre says he kept the Heroes name
because of his support for unsung heroes
in public safety. “The heroes theme is pretty
much a public safety and military theme,
and that is my background. I was in the
military. I was an Anniston policeman for
several years. My whole career was in EMS;
over 20 years as a paramedic.”

In addition to his own service, McIntyre’s
son is currently serving in the US Armed
Forces. “My son is in the military; he’s active
duty Army. So I just like the whole Heroes
thing,” he continues. “That to me is the only
thing that stayed the same. Heroes kind of
