18 37th Annual Black Heritage Festival at Anniston Museum
Call Anniston Museum of Natural History 256-237-6766 - A 37 year dream , an ongoing journey … Be sure to mark your calendars for the longest running Black Heritage Festival in the Southeast . This year ’ s Festival will be held at Longleaf Botanical Gardens . The first event of the day , beginning at 10:15 will be the Student Oration Competition , in which students from Pre-K to 12th grade recite words of poetry and prose by noted African American authors . Students are asked to pre-register through their schools , churches or civic clubs . If you would like to register your child for orations as an individual , please call Angie at 256- 237-6766 x 310 . Lunch can be purchased from Deano ’ s Grill on the front lawn from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM . There will be indoor dining areas and outdoor picnicking , weather permitting . Beginning at 1:00 PM , the Anniston High School Jazz Band under the direction of Mr . R . D . Mitchell , will perform . Vendors will be available in the Lobby from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM selling items such as jewelry , books , clothing and arts and crafts . The Festival is a day full of entertainment and cultural experiences that you ’ ll want to savor so plan to stay for the whole day ! This event is FREE to attend ! Each person attending the Festival will receive a wristband for free admission to Anniston and Berman Museums for February 18 , 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM . 18- Mardi Gras Gala – Anniston City Meeting Center - Join us for this adult community event , which is a fundraiser for Sacred Heart School .
