Marketing manager Amanda Kirkland says , “ We want people in our own backyard , in Calhoun County and Talladega County , where we are deeply rooted , to realize that we are a better company because of the challenges that our owner has faced . She holds her own in a man ’ s world and still gets the respect that she deserves ”.
“ A lot of people have no idea what she ’ s done and what the company has done ,” explained Kirkland . “ Whether it ’ s donating the VIP potties for local schools or monetary charitable contributions all over the U . S ..”
McMichael has made large contributions to Operation Blessing and other disaster relief organizations . Wise has also donated to Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center in Leeds .
Much of her humility comes from the reason why she has kept the business running . McMichael says that often times people come to work for her because they ’ re looking for a second chance . “ They say ‘ I will pick up trash , I want to work , I need to feed my family , pay my bills , and become a respectable person in the community .’.”
Whether it ’ s giving someone that second chance or donating thousands to disaster relief , McMichael helps her community in her own “ quiet , strong way .” She plans to hand her company over to her two sons , Scott and Jarrod McMichael , who currently work at Wise Environmental Solutions . A family-owned business in which they can be proud . ✽
