to join the military, Bondy decided to take
on the role, having worked on music with
Hunter previously in a casual capacity.
Another lineup change on drums opened
the door for Micah Dempsey, who also
performed with local band Havel and
Spree and currently performs with the
Rattlesnake Rattlers, to come along. With
the addition of John Bautista, who readers may recognize as a member of Ikaros
Project, Smashing Blue gelled into what
Hunter considers the band’s definitive
form.
“This is the incarnation of Smashing Blue
that goes places and does things,” stated
Hunter. “We’ve got our musical s**t to16

gether.”
The group keeps a notably different perspective than most other local bands; asking what their overall goal is reveals that
the band unabashedly wants to succeed,
intending to wield power and money to
create an “empire” (Hunter emphatically
wiggles her fingers like an evil overlord as
she speaks the word), though their underlying motivation is to conquer the world
so they can divvy it out to other creatives.
“I really hope we can help more of those
bedroom writers by being an example
and a helping hand to someone who
wants to shake off their stage fright and
show the world what they can do,” said
Bondy.
