The music
business and especially
established recorded music norms have
been turned upon its head. Technology
upended practices that hadn’t changed
much in decades. Whether or not that is
good or bad is a personal opinion. The truth
is that anyone can record, produce and offer
music now. That doesn’t necessarily mean
they should. Great artistry, however, will
always find a way to rise to the top. That is
where we currently find Calum Scott. He will
be in Birmingham on August 2nd as support
for Pentatonix.
Scott’s rise has been more of a traditional
climb, as much as it can be in the today’s
market. His beginnings were on a television
talent contest, another innovation that has
actually brought more superstars than also
rans.

He called in from Tulsa to talk with me and I
genuinely enjoyed my time with him.
Q: I love the duet versions of “You are the
Reason.” Can you talk about why you did
more of that one?
A: Well, I just told the record label I will
do as many as they want. I feel singing in a
different language, I mean, look at someone
like Julio Iglesias when he sings in English
and when he sings in Spanish, there’s just
something very special about that, you
know? So I may have more other versions of
“You are the Reason,” stay tuned.
Q: Great, I love “You are the Reason,” is that
about one specific person?
A: No, actually, “You are the Reason”
actually started out as getting anxiety in
a relationship and not knowing the root
cause of it. So the song actually started out
