WHAT TO DO ON CAMPUS If you want to get involved around campus, there are a ton of options — we’re not exaggerating. After careful scientific measurement, we have determined that JSU has 1.2 metric tons of organizations. They have a Quidditch team. Just take our word for it, there are a lot of options when it comes to getting involved with fellow students. Are you interested in politics and campus improvement? Just by being a JSU student you’re a member of the Student Government Association, an organization that coordinates many of the on-campus events and the voice of students when it comes to communicating with the university politically. If you want to perform, but music isn’t your thing, there’s also the Drama department’s many plays and musicals, with open auditions to all JSU students. Even if you’re majoring in business, why not take a chance getting bitten by the acting bug? There are also a multitude of religious organizations on campus, which can be found at jsu.edu/studentlife/sga/Religious. html For a full list of student organizations, visit jsu. edu/studentlife/student_organizations. html Finally, if you want to keep up with sports schedules and special events, head over to jsu.edu/calendars/month.php ✽ If you’re media-minded, you can join the staff of the Chanticleer, JSU’s newspaper, or take on a DJ position at WLJS, the campus radio station. You’re not required to be a communications major to join with either group, and you can help keep the campus in the know about current events, act as a media watchdog or just crank up some cool tunes. Speaking of cool tunes, you might be a musician, and if you’re good enough to pass muster, you can perform with the Marching Southerners, JSU’s acclaimed marching band. The Southerners get up to some amazing travel, like a recent trip to the United Kingdom to perform. You can also check out the Music department if you’re interested in performing in choir, or joining a swingin’ jazz ensemble. INSIGHT August 2014 9
