or for manipulating scenarios unforeseen.
It works out sometimes, and sometimes it
doesn’t.
How do you balance fun and passion in
this competitive sport?
What’s it like teaming up with
your daughter?
It is not a scenario I ever foresaw; I’ve
always let me kids choose what they feel
passionate about - and she loved ballet.
When she took an interest two years ago
I was thrilled. I’ve watched her work hard
over the past year, develop the grit needed,
and progres from getting pushed on the
routes here in Greenville to winning sprint
finishes in her category 4 and 5 races last
year. She is presently a cat 3, so I’m seriously
loving the opportunity of having her on
22
my wheel and working for her as much as
possible at the races that fit her.
I feel much passion for riding my bicycle
apart from competing. It is truly the end
for me. My passion for the competitive
sport aspect is centered within the physical
challenge and within the mental challenge
of understanding all the tactical dynamics
of this sport. Having fun while competing
is a difficult fine line to walk. It tests
relationships and character for sure. I think
it is most fun when we keep it light and
understand the difference between racing
each other and maintaining relationships-
