or for manipulating scenarios unforeseen. It works out sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t. How do you balance fun and passion in this competitive sport? What’s it like teaming up with your daughter? It is not a scenario I ever foresaw; I’ve always let me kids choose what they feel passionate about - and she loved ballet. When she took an interest two years ago I was thrilled. I’ve watched her work hard over the past year, develop the grit needed, and progres from getting pushed on the routes here in Greenville to winning sprint finishes in her category 4 and 5 races last year. She is presently a cat 3, so I’m seriously loving the opportunity of having her on 22 my wheel and working for her as much as possible at the races that fit her. I feel much passion for riding my bicycle apart from competing. It is truly the end for me. My passion for the competitive sport aspect is centered within the physical challenge and within the mental challenge of understanding all the tactical dynamics of this sport. Having fun while competing is a difficult fine line to walk. It tests relationships and character for sure. I think it is most fun when we keep it light and understand the difference between racing each other and maintaining relationships- April 2019 INSIGHT
